How to Search Civil Dockets
Jasper County has no verified local portal that searches every civil court. Read the caption first. A 1st or 1-A District Court case normally begins with District Clerk Rosa Norsworthy. A County Court or probate matter may begin with the County Clerk. Small claims and evictions belong to the named justice-court precinct.
Have the cause number, party names, document date, and desired filing ready. The District Clerk form states that a $5 research fee applies when no cause number is given. A precise request also helps staff distinguish similar names.
- Identify the court and case type from the caption.
- Test re:SearchTX for supported coverage.
- Search by cause number or party and court.
- Review events, filings, and settings.
- Request the named document or certified copy from the clerk.
Jasper Civil Search Layers
re:SearchTX is a statewide route, not a promise that every Jasper County civil record is online. Official materials describe cases from 2016 forward and case, filing, and hearing searches, but research could not verify the exact live controls because the portal returned an access barrier. Local confirmation remains vital.
CountyGovernmentRecords indexes deeds and recorded instruments for the County Clerk. A recorded deed or lien may relate to a dispute, yet it is not the civil docket. eFileTexas also serves another purpose: it sends filings to participating courts and is not a public viewer.
| Route | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| re:SearchTX | Supported state cases | Coverage varies |
| District Clerk | District civil and family files | Record must be identified |
| County OPR | Deeds and instruments | Not a docket |
What a Civil Docket Shows
A Jasper County civil docket is a chronological register of events. It can show that a petition, answer, motion, notice, or order was filed without displaying the full document. A filing date is not a hearing date, and a setting is not necessarily a trial.
| Cause number | The court-assigned identifier. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent. |
| Filings | Dated petitions, answers, notices, and orders. |
| Settings | Hearings and other scheduled events. |
| Judgment | A final judgment, dismissal, or recorded result. |
Jasper Civil Copy Requests
The District Clerk's Request for Copies form is the clearest fallback when a result is absent or a filing is not viewable. It requests contact details, cause number, plaintiff, defendant, document date, and the documents sought. Delivery choices are mail, email, and fax.
Email and fax copies cannot be certified. Mailed returns require a self-addressed stamped envelope. The form lists $1 per page and a $5 research fee without a cause number. The 2024 fee schedule lists $1 per page plus $5 for certification and seal. Confirm current charges before paying.
Ask for a named petition, order, judgment, or docket sheet. The clerk can locate records but cannot interpret their legal effect.
Types of Jasper Civil Cases
Jasper County has two district courts, a constitutional County Court, and six justice courts, but no county court at law. The assigned court determines the custodian.
- District civil and delinquent-tax matters
- Divorce and other family cases
- Probate and assigned County Court matters
- Justice-court small claims and debt cases
- Justice-court eviction cases
Jasper Family Standing Orders
The Texas Local Rules repository lists Jasper 1-A amended practice rules, a confidentiality policy, and a standing order concerning children, pets, property, records, conduct, mediation, and bond waiver. The standing order applies automatically in divorce and suits affecting the parent-child relationship and ends when a final order is signed.
That document can explain duties while a case is pending. It is not a calendar or proof of a setting. Search Texas Local Rules by Jasper County and court group, then confirm which order governs the case.
- Standing order
- A general directive for a defined class of cases.
- Setting
- A scheduled court event.
- Reset
- A change to a scheduled date, not a dismissal.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A civil docket may list motion hearings, conferences, pretrial dates, trials, and other events. Read the event type with the court, date, and latest entry. A reset moves a setting and does not end the case.
No unified Jasper district calendar was located. District Court Coordinator Melissa Stark is the published scheduling contact at 121 N. Austin Street, Room 205, (409) 384-9570, and districtcourt@co.jasper.tx.us. Give the court and cause number. Justice courts and County Court keep their own settings. The Jasper County court calendar overview explains each route.
Jasper Civil Caseload Context
Office of Court Administration FY2024 data show 1,580 active pending civil matters and 2,840 active pending family matters in Jasper County district courts at August 31, 2024. These are historical aggregate figures, not a current case list.
The volume helps explain why a cause number saves time. It cannot show whether a particular case remains open. Current status comes from the docket and responsible clerk.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Many Texas civil records are public, but access is not absolute. Juvenile files, protected family data, sealed documents, and confidential material may be withheld or redacted. A missing online result may also mean limited coverage, an indexing delay, or the wrong court. Requesters should describe the public record sought and let the custodian apply the governing rule.
Key Rules:
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a addresses openness and sealing.
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 addresses judicial records.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs public information while treating the judiciary separately.
When Jasper Civil Results Fail
Check the caption, court level, spelling, and cause number. Then ask the responsible clerk whether a public terminal, paper docket, mailed copy, email copy, or fax copy is available. re:SearchTX is another route where coverage allows, but it does not replace the clerk.
For an in-person request, District Clerk Rosa Norsworthy is in Room 202 at 121 N. Austin Street, Jasper, TX 75951. The office phone is (409) 384-2721 and posted hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. County Court, probate, and justice matters must go to their own offices. This fallback chain protects against false conclusions from a blank web search.
Jasper Civil Filing Timeline
Jasper County began accepting civil electronic filings on October 22, 2014, and civil e-filing became mandatory on January 1, 2016. Those milestones changed how attorneys and parties send documents to the clerk. They did not turn eFileTexas into a public search system. A submission still must reach the correct court, pass clerk review, and become part of the case record before its event can appear on a docket.
A recent filing may therefore be absent from a public view for reasons that have nothing to do with the merits. It may still be under review, indexed under the cause number, restricted, or available only from the clerk. Ask about the filing by its document name and submission date. If the question concerns proof of acceptance or service, use the filing receipt and official case record rather than a screen capture from a search result.
re:SearchTX document access has its own price model. The Texas Supreme Court fee order effective January 1, 2022 states ten cents per page, with a one-dollar minimum per document and a thirty-day download period. Those portal charges are distinct from the District Clerk's local copy and certification fees. Confirm which source will supply the form of copy needed before ordering from both.
